Titan Overview

The Titan was developed as a true industrial workhorse. Every part and component was carefully selected and tested to provide long component life under harsh, high duty cycle use. Longer life cycle on common wear items means less down time, less routing maintenance and higher profit margins.

The Titan was designed specifically for use with High Definition plasma. The Victor XT control is a robust industrial control designed and shielded for use with high frequency equipment. Other machines in this price category use controls built using standard PC components and do not fair well in an environment where high frequency exists. Issues can range from failed jobs to physically damaged electronics. The Victor XT control is designed with the proper shielding and ground backplanes to prevent high frequency noise interference.

The Titan is a rail system. The long axis rail is attached to floor and the cutting table is independent of the motion platform. This configuration lowers your initial acquisition costs by allowing you to build the cutting table on-site. Not only does this offer considerable cost savings on the cutting table but also on shipping costs. We've found that when table sizes exceed 8 x 20, it is far more cost effective to build them on-site. Of course, we can provide the cutting table for those who would rather purchase one.

The Titan is available in 10' and 16' widths and lengths in 20' increments with no limitations. A 10' x 20' system will yield an 8' x 16' cutting area with room to park multiple stations. The 16' gantry is designed for a 12' cutting area with parking space for even more cutting stations. For pricing information, see our Titan Build Page.

When choosing a plasma power supply, scalability, we looked at cut quality, manufacturer support and cost of operation. The Thermal Dynamics Auto-Cut and Ultra-Cut came out on top.

Scalability - The Ultra-Cut XT machines are scalable simply by adding additional inverter banks. You can buy a 200A machine now and upgrade it to a 400A machine down the road. This ability saves a considerable amount of money over replacing the entire system.

Cut Quality - It is no secret in the industry that Thermal Dynamics Ultra-Cut machines offer superior cut quality on aluminum and stainless. Why you ask? The Ultra-Cut machines use a Nitrogen/water mist process. Competitors use Nitrogen/H35. H35 (Argon/Hydrogen)is an expensive gas. Nitrogen is used as a plasma gas and water mist is used a shield. The heat from the plasma breaks down the water to it's principal components, oxygen and hydrogen. This process helps to cool the material while the oxygen helps to promote the cut and the hydrogen acts as a shield.

Mild steel is no problem either. The Auto-Cut and Ultra-Cut machines will increase your production volume using the inexpensive Oxygen/Air process while producing a smooth, dross free edge.

Manufacturer Support - Victor is always there to help when help is needed. Phone support is second to none and technicians are always available to go on site if needed.

Operating Costs - What's the point in a low acquisition cost it the operating costs are high? The Auto-Cut and Ultra-Cut machine deliver. The 300A and 400A machines use HeavyCut consumables providing longer consumable life at higher power settings. The Nitrogen/Water process also offers considerable savings over Nitrogen/H35.

Titan Features

x
x One of the Titans many defining features is our Y axis V Guide system. This rail is manufactured to exacting tolerances and provides precision tracking now and 5 years from now. The guide wheels are manufactured with sealed tapered roller bearings providing smooth motion with no side to side play. Each guide wheel has a weight capacity of 38,000 lbs. You can rest assured that the Titan guide system will provide may years of trouble free service.
x
x Our X axis rail comes from the same manufacturer and like our Y axis rail, it was chosen to provide years of trouble service.

The Titan uses a course pitch helical cut rack and pinion drive chosen for it's proven track record of providing long life and smooth motion in harsh environments. A course pitch is essential for long component life. Fine tooth rack captures debris which promotes wear. The courser pitch allows debris to fall through the gear teeth keeping both the rand and pinion cleaner.

Helical cut rack always has a tooth in full engagement providing smooth motion and eliminates cogging found in course pitch spur cut rack.

The Titan uses two 750 watt Yaskawa AC servos with planetary gearboxes on the Y axis and one 400 watt Yaskawa AC servo on the X axis. The Z lifter is also servo controlled with precision ball screw.

Motors are engaged using air cylinders with operator adjustable pressure. Engagement is controlled remotely right from the Victor control. A single switch disengage all drives.

Plasma marking allows you to etch material using the plasma torch. The marking software precisely controls the machine speed and current to produce a light etched mark. This feature is great for marking drilled holes, brake lines, part numbers, assembly instructions or use it for artistic applications.

The marking process uses Argon gas and requires an Ultra-Cut machine with auto gas.

x
x The Titan comes equipped with an optical collision sensor. This serves two purposes. (1) When not using ohmic sensing, it senses top of material before a cut and (2) during a cut, it provides feedback to the control. If the collision sensor is tripped during a cut, motion is paused. This saves consumables and allows easy restart of the job.

The Titan uses the best cable carrier in the industry, IGUS. We chose a carrier wide enough to offer separation between the noisy signals, such as the torch lead, and the clean signals, such as the servo and encoder signals. This separation eliminates high frequency noise interference.

x
x Most machines use a laser to position the torch. This is not a viable option on a larger machine. As the torch gets further away, the laser get harder to see. Our video alignment system allows the operator to precisely place the torch anywhere on the table by simply watching the video screen. An offset is stored for each tool. Prior running a program, the operator simply places the cross hair on the video screen at the start position. When the program runs, the tool offset is applied.

The Titan is available with up to four oxy/fuel cutting stations. Fuel options include Acetylene, Natural Gas, Propane and Propylene. The Victor XT control provides seamless integration of up to four oxy/fuel stations.

Gas Distribution is handled through a precision gauge manifold featuring Harris gauges and regulators.
